The TherAdapt Adjustable Positioning Chair offers three sizes of customizable seating for children with special needs. It is an adaptive seating system appropriate for children who have mild, moderate, or severe physical limitations. Adjusting and/or adding and removing postural supports is simple, allowing the chair to easily grow with the child and adapt to their changing needs for support. For children who are progressing towards independent postural control, supports can be gradually lowered, widened, or removed as postural muscles improve in strength and endurance. This is especially important for children with low or fluctuating muscle tone and decreased core strength. The easy adjustability also makes this an ideal piece of equipment for a multi-user environment. It can be easily disinfected between users. The Adjustable Positioning Chair is a perfect seating solution for circle time, therapy sessions, tabletop activities and feeding.

The seat height and angle of the Positioning Chair are adjustable allowing a seat to back angle range from 80 to 100 degrees. This flexibility of hip angle ensures proper pelvic positioning. Proper pelvic position is the foundation for the normal physiologic curves of the spine during healthy upright posture. The U-shaped side frames raise and lower the height of the chair. Adjustment slots in the side frames can also be paired to produce the Tilt-in-Space feature of the chair. Tilt-in-Space can be set at 5 degrees, 10 degrees or 20 degrees. Tilt-in-Space refers to the mechanism by which the whole seat tips back while keeping the hip angle the same. This can effectively decrease the user’s energy expenditure during sitting while maintaining an optimal hip/ pelvic angle for upright posture. The chair comes standard with a depth adjustable and removable abduction pommel that is especially important for children who have adductor spasticity (increased muscle tone of inner thigh muscles) which causes them to pull their legs inward or cross their legs. The 1 in. wide Pelvic Positioning Belt with side release buckle and double slotted rings allow the loose ends of the strap to be threaded through which prevents the strap from slipping. This secures and maintains the hip and pelvic position once it is established.

When ordering the TherAdapt Adjustable Positioning Chair you will be asked to choose a size- Early Intervention (APC 100), Preschool/ Primary (APC 200), Primary/ Intermediate (APC 300) . Click on Size Chart tab below for help in selecting the correct size. You will then be asked if you would like to add the Padded Seat Pad . The Seat Pad adds cushioning to the seat for increased comfort. The pad is secured with hook and loop strips. The optional Footplate is height, depth, and angle adjustable to provide a variety of positioning options for the feet. It comes with four straps that can be used as needed. The feet are secured with curved, side release buckles for ease of use. Please refer to the picture carousel for pictures of these options.

Please Note: The Basic Adjustable Positioning Chair comes pre-assembled, but it should be adjusted properly to the individual user to provide customized fit.
