Replacement Parts

The Rifton Compass Chair is a simple, durable seating solution for students who require more postural support then a standard classroom chair can provide. It is available in five sizes to accommodate everyone from small children to adults. The Compass has been designed for students with mild physical involvement who will benefit from an ergonomically contoured seat and sturdy armrests. The armrests are short enough to position the student close to a table and are the optimal height to aid in transfers. In the clinic this chair is ideal for children who are becoming more independent in postural control and sit to stand transfers. The contoured seat and armrests also provide reassuring sensory boundaries that improve the student’s comfort and security. This has been found to be particularly beneficial for students with autism spectrum disorder.

The rock-solid frame of the Rifton Compass has been built to withstand years of demanding use. At the same time, its simple construction allows it to blend into any classroom environment making it the perfect chair for inclusion. The Compass Chair’s wide footprint makes it inherently stable, but for users who require even greater stability, Stability Feet can be purchased in the accessories section. Stability Feet can be placed on front legs, back legs or all four legs.

Standard Legs now have 4 in. of adjustability in 1 in. increments*! This ensures optimal seat height for the user. It also allows for accommodation of growth or simple, convenient height customization in multi-user environments. It is also possible to adjust the front legs longer or shorter than the rear legs creating a slight tilt of the seat surface. Providing a slight posterior tilt of the seat has been found to help some students relax. A slight anterior tilt of the seat can assist with sit to stand transfers.

*Except for Size 1 Compass Chair which has 2-3 in. of adjustability depending on the legs that are chosen. The Size 1 Compass Chair is the only model that offers a choice of legs. Short Legs for Size 1 allow the seat height to be adjusted from 9 to 11 in. in 1-inch increments. Standard Legs for Size 1 allow the seat height to be adjusted from 10 to 13 in. in 1-inch increments.

Please click on the Size Chart tab for details on seat height range for all sizes of the Compass Chair.

With the purchase of all legs, a choice needs to made regarding High Friction or Low Friction Feet. Low Friction Feet will allow the chair to move more easily across the floor. If Stability Feet or Dynamic Feet are chosen in the accessories section these feet clip on or off the legs independently without the use of tools.

Seat and back surfaces have a non-slip texture for added security and are easily cleaned with disinfectant wipes or a solution of up to 10% bleach.

For students who require additional safety features, optional accessories for the Rifton Compass Chair include a Seat Belt and Pelvic Harness. They can be found in the accessories section. The optional Seat Belt can be clipped into the chair when needed for safety or postural support. The seat belt’s side-release buckle can be positioned in the middle or off set to one side. The Pelvic Harness is an alternative to the Seat Belt securing the user’s hips and upper thighs without pressure on the abdomen.

The basic Compass Chair comes fully assembled, complete with four adjustable legs. It is appropriate for use in schools, clinics and at home.
