The Trekie Poles are a wonderful gait-training tool for young children with mild physical involvement. Available in two sizes, the Trekie Poles can be used independently or with the Walk on Base. The small size Trekie Poles can be adjusted in height from 17"-25" (43-64 cm). The large Trekie Poles will adjust from 24"-36" (61-91 cm).The Trekie Poles can be attached to the Walk on Base either along the length of the base or placed parallel to the width of the system. The Poles can also be placed upright, prompting a child to reach and grasp while learning both standing and walking balance. Therapists can change the Trekie Poles configurations easily, helping to vary their treatment activities for each child with special needs. The Trekie Poles can also be used in conjunction with the Lift-Off Chair to encourage reaching and grasping while transitioning from sit to stand.Although the Trekie Poles are durable and provide some support, children will be unable to lean on them and therefore, will need to have some level of standing balance and independent walking ability. Therapists can use the Trekie Poles to help children with special needs develop such skills as weight bearing, coordination, strength, and endurance.
