Letters From Our Therapists
The Dyno by Leggero is a folding, 3-wheeled adaptive stroller built for families on the go! This special needs push chair is as capable on a trail through the woods as it is in the confined spaces of a classroom. As steady on a slow walk down a hallway as it is on your morning jog. And the Dyno offers the high degree of precise adjustability necessary to allow for truly customized postural support in a Dynamic Seating System. It is without a doubt in a class of its own.
The Activator™ Dynamic Component makes the Dyno a dynamic seating system. This system has the built-in ability to move with and accommodate for the movement of your child and then return to its starting position. The dynamic component allows the seat back to extend a maximum of 30 degrees. The dynamic component can also be locked out with a fixed recline of the back at 10°, 20° and 30°. The dynamic component also allows for 10° of knee extension. Research in recent years has consistently supported the benefits of this type of system not only to absorb the forces of movement patterns such as extensor thrusting but also to help channel fluctuating muscle tone, spasticity or hypotonia into purposeful movement. The resistance of the dynamic back can be changed by installing light, medium, or stiff springs in Step 3 or you can choose to purchase all three springs to determine which is most beneficial for your child.
The Dyno’s 3-wheeled mobile base configuration with large pneumatic back tires and a swivel front tire that can be locked into position, along with an excellent suspension system, ensures a smooth ride. The chair is extremely lightweight, weighing only 26.5 lbs. (12 kg). It folds quickly, compactly, and securely in one easy step making it effortlessly transportable. It can also be stood up on one end in the folded position for storage. Rear wheels are quick release, allowing the folded dimensions of the stroller to be even further reduced. Family friendly features offered as standard include a height adjustable push handle, under the seat storage bag, rear mesh pocket, and a deluxe sunshade .
In Step 1 , you will choose the base for the stroller. If bus transport is required, a Transit Option with wheelchair tie down loops is available making the Dyno the only WC-19 crash tested compact folding 3-wheeler on the market. Also choose the color of your Dyno.
The comfortable Cascading Contoured Seat Cushion sits on top of a solid, depth adjustable seat pan. The cushion is designed to accommodate growth in seat depth. The seat and Height Adjustable Contoured Back are equipped with simple, tool-free angle adjustments that result in a full 30 degrees of hip angle adjustability. This ensures proper position of the pelvis which is the foundation of a well aligned seated posture.
In Step 2 , there is a choice of either a 2-Point or 4-Point Padded Positioning Belt to anchor the pelvis. The number of points refers to the number of places where the belt is attached to the frame. A 4-Point Belt will provide greater stability than a 2-Point Belt especially for a child with significant spasticity. The extra attachment points prevent the belt from riding up onto the abdomen or twisting and moving out of position. Four points of attachment are ideal to manage anterior pelvic tilt, pelvic rotation, and thrusting. Both styles of belt are equipped with a push button release, and a single, easy D-ring pull strap adjustment.
In Step 4 , choose a headrest. The 8” Oval Multi-Adjustable Headrest and Respond™ Cradle Headrests are both adjustable in height and depth. The Respond Cradle Headrest offers support for the sides of the head guiding the head to midline.
In Step 5 , a variety of Stealth Anterior Posture Supports are available for you to choose from to address trunk positioning . All are constructed from a unique open-cell material that allows air to circulate and moisture to escape which contributes to reduced heat build-up and a cooler, drier, more comfortable experience for your child. Swivel buckles on the lower attaching straps support the correct angle of attachment and full-length attaching straps provide for proper positioning of the side release buckles, ensuring that the posture support maintains adjustment. The Contoured Style Chest Harness has a narrowed section over the sternum that better accommodates G-tube users or those requiring a smaller support surface. The Classic Style Vest offers a large, padded surface for the thoracic area. Both styles are available in either Dynamic or Structured design. The Dynamic design provides postural control, a degree of trunk movement, and a softer fit on the body. The user has movement within a limited range, encouraging return to their neutral position. The Structured design is more resistant to high tone, aiding in the maintenance of correct posture. All vests are available in XS, S, and M. Please refer to the picture carousel for measuring guides to help determine correct size selection.
In Step 6, optional Lateral Supports for the trunk, pelvis and upper legs are available to secure midline positioning. Fixed Back (trunk) Laterals are adjustable in height, width, and angle of rotation. Hip Laterals provide side support to the pelvis and thighs and are available in three different pad thicknesses (1 in., 2 in., and 3 in.). They can effectively narrow the width of the chair as well as control excessive abduction (splaying) of the legs. They are sold individually or as a pair and are right/left specific.
In Step 7, an optional Medial Knee Block is available in two sizes to prevent crossing of the legs- a common issue for children with adductor hip muscle (inner thigh) spasticity. Also in step 7, optional Ankle Supports are available to ensure proper positioning of the lower legs and feet on the height and angle adjustable footplate.
Whether your child has mild limitations and relies on their stroller only to get from place to place or is fully dependent and relies on the support of the seat for prolonged periods of sitting, you will be well served by the Dyno. The Dyno’s durability and its generous growth potential guarantee many years of reliable use.
The Dyno – Superior Performance and Superior Convenience.
