The Triaid Terrier is a pediatric adaptive tricycle for young children with special needs. It accommodates a rider with an overall height of 3 ft. 3 in. to 4 ft. 1 in. (100-125 cm). The Critical Measurement is the User’s Inseam Measurement measured from the bottom of the shoe to the groin. The Terrier accommodates an inseam measurement of 16.5−21.5 inches (42-54.5 cm) . This dual-axle (pedals connect/drive both back wheels), foot-propelled tricycle has a maximum user weight limit of 100 lbs. (45 kg) . Its low center of gravity, broad wheelbase, adjustable steering stop and customizable positional accessories allow for easy adjustment to support the child's growth, changing ability, and individual needs.

In Step 1 , choose the tricycle's color and the drive system. The Terrier is designed for easy pedaling with a low 1:1 fixed gear ratio (one pedal revolution equals one wheel revolution). The Standard Fixed Gear offers a direct pedal-to-wheel linkage which is ideal for therapeutic use. It aids momentum/coordination and helps to rapidly teach cause and effect (pedal forward = move forward, pedal backward= move backward, pedaling stops = movement stops).

The Option Drive Gear (Standard Fixed Gear PLUS Freewheel) is an upgrade that allows the caregiver to manually switch the tricycle between Standard Fixed Gear and Freewheel Mode. Freewheel Mode allows the rider to coast or rest intermittently- pedaling can stop, and the wheels can continue to turn. To switch between the Fixed Gear (Direct Drive) and Freewheel Mode, a caregiver must manually engage or disengage the locking plunger located near the rear axle. This is especially beneficial if the tricycle is purchased with a Rear Steering Mechanism and the caregiver would like to assist the rider with forward movement/steering while the rider rests without pedaling.

Also, in Step1 choose between a Standard Fixed Frame or a Folding Frame . The folding frame facilitates easier storage and transportation.

In Step 2 , choose between Traditional Front Steering and Rear Steering . The Rear Steering Mechanism allows a caregiver to assist with steering and propelling the Terrier while walking behind the rider. This system includes a steering handle, which can be easily removed for transport, and can be upgraded with an optional Attendant Brake (with a parking feature) for additional control over stopping. (A simpler Triaid Control Pole is also available in the accessories section.)

In this step you can also choose to add a Handlebar Mitt(s) . Mitts are sold individually (left/right specific) and assist the rider in maintaining their grip on the handlebar, which can be especially helpful for riders with limited grasping ability.

In Step 4 , you will choose your seat.

Additional Postural Support Accessories

Also in Step 4 , you can choose a Hip Strap/Seat Belt.

Finally, in Step 4 , if you selected the In-Line Trunk Support with 6.5 in. Laterals, you can add a Multi-Axis Head Support . This support is for riders who struggle with head positioning; it features a durable, easy-to-clean molded Polyurethane Headrest Pad (10 in. [25cm] wide, 4 in. [10cm] high) on a chrome-finished Multi-Axis Bracket. The bracket allows for precise adjustment in height, depth, and angle to prevent the head from pushing backward and offers some side stability. Note that it requires the In-Line Trunk Support to mount and will not prevent the head from falling forward.

In Step 5 , you can add foot/lower leg support and assistance with pedaling. Your choices include

In Step 6 , you can upgrade the standard 16” pneumatic tires to 16” EVA Puncture-Proof Tires . Available as a set of three, these durable foam/rubber tires never need inflation and are ideal for use on the Terrier, especially at schools and playgrounds.

The Terrier adaptive tricycle combines modern style and color with an extensive array of postural support accessories, ensuring young riders can focus entirely on pedaling, steering and fun! This engaging activity promotes enhanced strength, endurance, and cardiovascular wellness, while the Terrier’s comfort and safety features can ultimately boost a child's self-esteem and social connection.

  • Basic/Traditional Handlebars: A chopper-style bar that adjusts in height and angle for comfortable steering and grip.
  • Comfi-Grip Handlebars: Provides greater adjustability, allowing each side to move independently for custom height and reach. The Medium Comfi-Grip features 7/8 in. (22 mm) bars and a durable rubber grip.
  • Loop Style Handlebars: Shaped to provide a variety of grip positions; covered in durable, easy-to-clean textured rubber. It adjusts in height and angle. Suitable for all riders, particularly useful if a rider has difficulty extending one or both upper limbs (holding towards the center greatly reduces the movement required for steering).
  • Basic Seat Post with Saddle: A basic, straight post that allows for vertical height adjustment of the saddle via a quick-release clamp to accommodate rider growth. The extra wide padded saddle is essential for a stable seating position.
  • Basic Seat Post with Comfort Saddle: This saddle features a broad seating surface and a small back support. It is intended for riders with good sitting stability who require the added reassurance of back support to maintain proper position and prevent slipping backward.
  • Seat Post with Trunk Support Mount and Saddle: REQUIRED for riders needing a pelvic strap, back support or hip laterals. It offers both vertical (height) and horizontal (forward/backward) saddle adjustment for growth and includes mounting points for additional support accessories.
  • Seat Post with Trunk Support Mount and Saddle with Swivel Seat Mechanism: This feature allows the saddle to swivel 45 degrees to the left or right, enabling easier transfer onto the tricycle (especially helpful for assisted standing transfers or hoist use). The saddle moves smoothly on sealed bearings and locks into position for both transfer and cycling using a lever and spring plunger.
  • Padded Back/Trunk Support- 10 in.: This support aids the rider's torso for safe, comfortable alignment, featuring a chest strap with side release buckle to prevent falling forward. Dimensions: Internal width tapers from 11 in. (28 cm) at the front to 8 in. (20 cm) at the rear. Max Vertical Adjustment of 11 in. (28 cm).
  • In-Line Trunk Support with 6.5 in. Trunk Laterals: A wrap-around system made of durable polyurethane foam provides maximum trunk control. Beneficial for riders with low or high muscle tone, it features independently adjustable, swing away and removable lateral supports (6.5 in. long). Support is adjustable in height and has a chest strap with side release buckle. Dimensions: Backrest Pad Height 7.5 in. (19cm), Internal Width adjusts from 7 in. (18cm) min to 9 in. (23cm) max.
  • Anterior Trunk Support Harness: A comfortable, neoprene-type harness with four quick-adjustment/attachment points for a secure fit; the center bib piece is easily removable for washing. In-Line Trunk Support with 6.5 in. Trunk Laterals REQUIRED for mounting.
  • Lateral Pelvic Supports: These supports stabilize the hips to maintain a centralized seating position. The pads are independently adjustable for width and can be removed for access. Dimensions: Lateral Pad Length 6 in. (15cm) and Pad Height 2.75 in. (7cm). In-Line Trunk Support with 6.5 in. Trunk Laterals or Padded Back/Trunk Support REQUIRED for mounting.
  • Pelvic Strap: A basic webbing strap with a side-release buckle that adjusts in length to help the rider maintain a comfortable position on the saddle.
  • Padded Dual Pull Pelvic Strap: Features padding over the webbing strap and quick adjustment tabs for easy, comfortable use, even with riders who exhibit strong extensor tone.
  • 4 Point Padded Pelvic Strap: Offers maximum pelvic support and prevents forward slipping with four points of quick adjustment/attachment, comfortable padding, and a metal push-button buckle for quick release.
  • Keep Standard Pedal
  • Pedals with Toe Clips are designed to help the rider keep their foot position on the pedals. It features a toe support cage with an adjustable strap to secure the foot. A heel loop can be added for extra support if needed. This option provides moderate foot control and is suitable for riders who require some assistance to maintain their foot position, but it will not work for riders whose feet rotate inwards or outwards during pedaling.
  • Pedals with Toe Clips and Heel Loops provide extra support by adding Heel Loop to Toe Clip.
  • Medium Foot Sandals are durable, profiled ABS supports designed to stabilize the rider's entire foot. Their curved shape and crisscross webbing straps, secured with quick-release buckles, prevent the foot from rotating inwards or outwards. This ensures the feet remain firmly in place and in proper alignment for increased comfort and an improved pedaling position.
  • Medium Foot Sandals with Pulley System add a feature that assists the rider in keeping the pedals level throughout the full 360-degree rotation. This support is ideal for children who typically use AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthosis) but prefer not to wear their splints while cycling.
  • Medium Calipers provide lower leg support and must be used with Foot Sandals. A padded cuff, secured with Velcro below the knee, attaches to a height-adjustable stem. This system holds the lower leg firmly in place, preventing inward/outward rotation and a toe-down pedaling action. Dimensions: Internal Width of Cuff – 3.25 in. (8.5cm); External Width of Cuff – 5" (13cm); Maximum Height to the top of Leg Caliper Cuff – 12" (30cm).
