Letters From Our Therapists

The NEW Rifton Tricycle design has made a great adaptive tricycle even better. At Rifton, they continually seek to make their designs more accessible and functional. Again, they have achieved success with their newly designed tricycle. Rifton brought 40 years of experience together with the input of cyclists, therapists and families who use their product. They also used cutting-edge materials and technology. All to create the ultimate ride. It is sleek, rugged, adaptable and a whole lot of fun.

All Tricycles have these great features

In Required Step 1 , you will choose the size and color of your tricycle. Please refer to the Size Chart tab for help with measurements and sizing. The critical measurement for fitting the tricycle is the inseam/inner leg measurement. The user’s extended leg should reach comfortably from seat to pedal when both feet and torso are strapped into place. Rifton Tricycles accommodate user inseam measurements from 12-38 in. (30.5-96.5cm) using 3 different frame sizes. It’s also important to note that the user’s weight must not exceed the maximum working load for the frame size you have chosen. Adaptive Tricycles are not intended for users with strong reflexes or poorly developed trunk balance and poor head control.

In Required Step 1 you will also select

In Required Step 2 , you will choose Back Support

Please Note – Laterals and/or a headrest CANNOT be added when the Backrest Pad is chosen.

If you select the Trunk Support System Option , you can also add a headrest of your choice and/or Lateral Trunk Supports.

In Required Step 3 you can choose to add a Rear Handle. There are 2 styles of Rear Handle for caregiver assistance. The basic style is the Push Handle that attaches in the back behind the seat. It allows the caregiver to assist the rider with forward motion and control the tricycle’s speed. It can be purchased with or without a caregiver brake. The other option is Rear Steer. It looks similar to the Push Handle but it is connected to the main handlebar allowing the caregiver to assist with steering. It lets a caregiver aid in steering the tricycle from behind the rider giving the rider a feeling of independence. Rear Steer can also be ordered with or without the caregiver brake.

Rifton believes everyone deserves the chance to ride. Biking is more than recreational. It’s therapeutic. The health benefits that come with cycling are plentiful– improved leg strength, posture, balance and range of motion; reciprocal leg motion patterning; using visual and spatial perception for steering- especially for children with physical challenges. Riding also helps with socialization- engagement with friends and family. Adaptive tricycles can even help non-ambulatory people experience the joy and freedom of independent movement.
